When to choose wood pallets?
Wood pallets have clear advantages in the following scenarios:
- Manufacturing line turnover: Heavy load, frequent handling, easy to damage — just replace a board, no need to scrap the whole unit
- Heavy-duty storage: Static load requirement >2 tons, wood pallets with 25mm board can reach 4 tons+
- Export transportation: Although fumigation is required, the fumigation cost for wood pallets is low (about 5-10 yuan/piece), and the total cost is still far lower than plastic
- Limited budget: When purchasing in large quantities initially, wood pallets can save 60-70% of procurement cost
- Non-standard customization: Special sizes and special structures — wood pallets can be customized freely, plastic needs mold making
When to choose plastic pallets?
Plastic pallets are more suitable in the following scenarios:
- Food/pharmaceutical industry: High cleanliness requirements, need frequent cleaning and disinfection
- Cold chain logistics: Humid environment, wood pallets easily absorb water, swell, and mold
- Export without fumigation: Export scenarios where fumigation is not desired
- Standardized pooling: Long-term, large-scale standardized leasing or circulation
An objective word on environmental friendliness
Both materials have their own environmental advantages. We don't disparage plastic, nor overstate wood's "natural" attributes. The fact is: wood pallets are made from renewable fast-growing plantation wood (pine, poplar). When discarded, they can be used as biomass fuel or naturally degrade. Although plastic pallets are non-biodegradable, they can be recycled and reprocessed into pellets for reuse. Which is more environmentally friendly depends on your local recycling system and usage pattern.
